Thursday Thirteen #1

2.) Traveling. When we were stationed in Germany I did plenty of weekend trips!
3.) The commissary. This is our grocery store, everything at cost, plus a 5% charge to cover salary and the store expenses. I seriously save a butt load of money here!
4.) The movie theater- it may not be the new stadium seating with all the bells and whistles, but I feel safe dropping my 13 yo off with friends for a few hours. Plus- you won’t go broke buying popcorn.
5.) Base Pool. For $50 I can buy a pass for the entire family for the whole summer. Our base has two pools, so we actually have a choice and don’t have to worry to much about it being crowded.
6.) The support system. Seriously we have a great support system among us wives.
7.) The 10% discount at Dairy Queen, as well as other stores. It is nice to live in a supportive town!
8.) The Class VI. Liquor store. Do I really need to say anything else?
9.) The Dry Cleaner. Usually a little less expensive than off-base.
10.) The parks and playgrounds. For the most part we have always been within walking distance of a really nice playground, or two!
11.) Housing Maintenance. Got a problem? Call them! Maybe not the speediest people, but it’s nice not to have to snake your own toilets!
12.) Not having an electric bill, at least as long as you live on base- which we do.
13.) The uniform. Enough said!

It really sounds like an interesting life! The travel would be wonderful (though I deplore “work travel”) and discounts are always good. “Liquor store?” OKaaay!

Great Thursday 13….I did mine for a second time. We alternate between living on post and off for some reason. We are off now.

I agree with all 13, military life has been an adventure for us and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I grew up a Navy brat so i was shaking my head in agreement over all of your list. I greatly miss military life, growing up i always thought i’d be a navy wife, instead i married a canadian LMAO

Great TT. My wife has been stationed in Texas for the past three years as well, and it’s very possible that we’ll be here for the next three as well.
We’re also planning on moving to Base housing, and I definitely agree with the commissary!
Funny, your base sounds kinda familiar… hmmm

I love item #13! I have to say that my husband looks hot in his flight suit.
I miss a lot of the perks that come with living on base. We are no where near a base right now and I miss the commissary. I could send DH there but everything would be melted by the time he got home.

I grew up as an Air Force Brat. I can readily agree with your list. Especially about the swimming pool and movies.

LOL!
Seriously, great list - I loved the base pool growing up and I often wish I had access to the commisary….I miss being a military brat…

Mrs Duck still raves about the commisary store when her grandparents were always able to go over at Ft Dix

I have a tendency to attract those odd people too! Everyone likes to tell me their life stories. I don’t mind though, as long as they don’t get “stalkish.”

Do you mind if I borrow that uniform for my hubby sometimes?

Happy TT and thanks for dropping by mine.

I have to agree with #13 also. My dad was a military officer and I spent a lot of time on base. Love the Navy whites.

I was just telling Sei how living on a base you’d have an instant connection with the other wives there. Kinda like built in friends. I think that’d be cool. And the uniform… yummy!

I miss the built in social and support system of the millitary since my husband retired.
And the thing about moving so often…..you knew that if you didn’t get along with your neighbor you would only have to put up with them until your next PCS.

Thanks for the “peek” into the military wife’s life!
Interesting first T13!
