Fisher House
I was at From the Frontlines earlier today, and decided to join in with helping Fisher House. You can find out more about Fisher House here.
The Fisher House™ program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America’s military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House™ Foundation donates “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
When I was pregnant and hospitalized for three weeks, we were very fortunate to have Landstuhl Army Medical Center only 20 minutes away. If we hadn’t, The Hubs would have stayed in the Fisher House at Landstuhl.
Beauty for the Brave has a wonderful idea, yet simple, idea for American women to honor those returning soldiers. They suggest that every woman donate the cost of her favorite beauty treatment to support the Fisher House Program, allowing a spouse and children to stay near their returning soldier during his or her recovery. Beauty for the Brave says “the symbolism of sacrificing something related to our own beauty is beautiful in itself.”
