Lead found in Lipstick

Friday, October 12th, 2007

First we had to deal with lead in children’s toys. Now, it is in lipstick! Where will this end?

Lipsticks tested by a U.S. consumer rights group found that more than half contained lead and some popular brands including Cover Girl, L’Oreal and Christian Dior had more lead than others, the group said on Thursday.

I ran across this news story this morning, shocking is an understatement! If this were an American politician, it would be kill their career!

Bavaria’s most glamorous politician — a flame-haired motorcyclist who helped bring down state premier Edmund Stoiber — has shocked the Catholic state in Germany by suggesting marriage should last just 7 years.

A Good News Report

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

This morning I ran across this article. We are constantly bombarded with bad news about the war, and I was glad to read a story that shows our troops in a better light. A kinder. gentler light.

In summary, the article is about an abandoned Iraqi baby, named Fatima Jubouri. Little Fatima’s parents are both deceased and she was left abandoned in a pile of garbage in Baghdad. It is believed her mother may have placed her there for safety, before she herself was killed. (more…)

Army suicide rate- all time high!

Friday, August 17th, 2007

No matter what branch your hubby is in, all of us military wives share a bond together. I ran across this Yahoo article yesterday, the rate of suicide in the Army is at an all time high. This really does sadden me when the Army, as well as all branches of the military are actively improving the process of seeking help.

Here is the article:

29,000 Sex Offenders Found On MySpace

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

MySpace.com has found more than 29,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on the popular social networking Web site, more than four times the number cited by the company two months ago, North Carolina officials said Tuesday. North Carolina’s Roy Cooper is one of several attorneys general who recently demanded the News Corp.-owned Web site provide data on how many registered sex offenders were using the site, along with information about where they live. After initially withholding the information, citing federal privacy laws, MySpace began sharing the information in May after the states filed formal legal requests.

At the time, MySpace said it had already used a database it helped create to remove about 7,000 profiles of sex offenders, out of a total of about 180 million profiles on the site.

Two MySpace spokeswomen did not immediately return calls seeking comment Tuesday. Cooper is pushing for legislation that would require children to receive parental permission before creating social networking profiles and require the Web sites to enact procedures for verifying the parents’ identity and age.
