A Good News Report
This morning I ran across this article. We are constantly bombarded with bad news about the war, and I was glad to read a story that shows our troops in a better light. A kinder. gentler light.
In summary, the article is about an abandoned Iraqi baby, named Fatima Jubouri. Little Fatima’s parents are both deceased and she was left abandoned in a pile of garbage in Baghdad. It is believed her mother may have placed her there for safety, before she herself was killed.
After receiving adoption inquiries, the hospital’s chief doctor made inquiries at the U.S. embassy, but unfortunately, “Iraqi law does not currently permit full adoptions as they are currently understood in the United States.”
Since adoption is forbidden in Muslim countries, many are hoping that the media interest in Fatima would “create a loophole in the policy.” Otherwise she will be moving into an orphanage with a very bleak future.

I was only able to skim this arctile in the paper this morning, so thanks for the summary. The poor little girl… how fortunate she was to have been placed there for her safety. I don’t understand why adoption is forbidden in Muslim countries? I hope something is able to be done for her.
