Thursday Thirteen #2

Yesterday, my internet cable was down for hours! The horror! Thought I was going to go insane! It made me realize that I have a serious addiction not just to blogs, and all their bloggy yumminess, but the the internet as a whole.

1.) When asked to your address, your answer begins with http://

2.) You chat with your fingers, not your mouth.

3.) You know the difference between Java and Javascript.

4.) Most of your friends have an @ in their names.

5.) In order to watch CNN you move to www.cnn.com

6.) On your business card the e-mail appears before the phone number.

7.) You find yourself typing “com” after every period when using a word processor.com

8.) You check your mail. It says “no new messages.” So you check it again.

9.) You can think of nineteen keystroke symbols that are far more clever than :-).

10.) You are told about a new program, and you are disappointed to find that it is a TV program.

11.) Not only do you check your email more often than your paper mail, but you remember your network address faster than your postal one.

12.) You would rather be online, then out with friends.

13.) You wake up at 3 a.m. to go to the bathroom and stop to check your e-mail on the way back to bed. (I have actually done this! Was busted by my sister who was online at the time!)

How are your kids??

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

How are your children today? Are they healthy? Do you realize how lucky you are? I’ll admit, I take it for granted that I will have healthy children when I wake up each morning. I curse under my breathe when one of the boys wakes up with a runny nose or cough.

Today I want to introduce you to Parker. I found Parker after visiting Melody. Parker is a beautiful little boy. Please take the time to pop over to Praying for Parker. Parkers parents, Tammy and Reed, are faced with medical issues for Parker that I can’t even fathom. A benefit concert will be held 29 June in Utah for Parker. Tammy has thought of calling the concert off, but then after much thought, reconsidered, deciding ‘the show must go on’. For those of us who are unable to attend, we can still help. Click on the link below for more information.

Whatcha’ Doing??

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Sleeping in? Yard work? Watching movies? Cooking out with friends and family? Hitting a couple of good sales? What are you doing today? Today being Memorial Day?

I will admit that I am guilty of seeing this three day weekend as a ‘mini-vacation’. Maybe hitting a really good sale, or two. Definitely sleeping in-as well!

This Memorial Day, I am going to do something a little different. Today I am going to make sure my boys know what today is about. We don’t live close enough to visit the Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. That wont stop me though- Our base does have their own wall, and we will be going to visit that wall.

Saturday Meme (#1)

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

1. Food: Do you buy brand names or go for the cheaper store name brand?:
> It really depends on the product- toilet paper, ketchup, you know the important stuff- gotta be a certain brand!

2. Clothes: Wear designer jeans/slacks with a brand name or regular department store jeans/slacks?:
> I am casual and haven’t spend too much on myself in the way of clothes since I had the boys!

3. Handbags: Buy a designer bag or look for a less expensive copy?:
Yep- buy the imitation! :)

4. Shoes: You got the drift, designer or a cheaper copy?:
I think I buy VERY good shoes, but I don’t simply buy them because a certain name is attached!

Over on my other blog, Special K Family, I have been tagged by OC Mom to list Seven Random Things all about me! Well- I just love to talk about me! I thought I would do my list here, and make it:

13 Random Things I Love About Being An Air Force Wife!1.) Getting to meet new people. Sometimes this can be a double edge sword. There are some odd ones out there, and I have a tendency to attracted them. Every last one of them.

2.) Traveling. When we were stationed in Germany I did plenty of weekend trips!

3.) The commissary. This is our grocery store, everything at cost, plus a 5% charge to cover salary and the store expenses. I seriously save a butt load of money here!

4.) The movie theater- it may not be the new stadium seating with all the bells and whistles, but I feel safe dropping my 13 yo off with friends for a few hours. Plus- you won’t go broke buying popcorn.

5.) Base Pool. For $50 I can buy a pass for the entire family for the whole summer. Our base has two pools, so we actually have a choice and don’t have to worry to much about it being crowded.

6.) The support system. Seriously we have a great support system among us wives.

7.) The 10% discount at Dairy Queen, as well as other stores. It is nice to live in a supportive town!

8.) The Class VI. Liquor store. Do I really need to say anything else?

9.) The Dry Cleaner. Usually a little less expensive than off-base.

10.) The parks and playgrounds. For the most part we have always been within walking distance of a really nice playground, or two!

11.) Housing Maintenance. Got a problem? Call them! Maybe not the speediest people, but it’s nice not to have to snake your own toilets!

12.) Not having an electric bill, at least as long as you live on base- which we do.

13.) The uniform. Enough said! ;)

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here! The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! Want to know what makes me say FREAKING FANTASTIC?

10am: Being in the shower, washing your hair, just lathered up real good, and the water goes out. OUT! OFF! KA-PUT! It doesn’t come back on. So I have to get out of the shower, soapy head and all, go into the kitchen where I have a gallon of bottled water and attempt to rinse my hair in the kitchen sink, all the while conserving the water. To say a string of foul words are coming out of my mouth is an understatement.

Barbie, my closest girlfriend, who lives only five houses down, called the housing office. Water will be out until 4:30 pm. FREAKING FANTASTIC!! Did they think to tell us? The residents? Umm… they conveniently forgot to notify us.

Just one of those little things that makes you realize you are going to have a crappy week. Hope your week is better! :)

Welcome to Being An Air Force Wife!

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Welcome! This is my first post here at 451 Press, and I am so excited! 451 Press hosts many exciting blogs, and there is something for everyone here.

My name is Toni and I have been married to my husband Ray, as well as the Air Force, for seven years. We have two boys, David, who is 13, and Luke who just turned 5. David is from my first marriage if you are doing the math in your head. His biological father is no longer in the picture. Ray is his dad. Any more questions? Good.

We are currently stationed in Texas, and have been here almost three years. Previously we were in Germany at Ramstein Air Base, which was wonderful, but we are glad to be back in the good ‘ole USA!

As we are all well aware this blog is titled ‘Being An Air Force Wife’- but myself, and all Air Force wives are so, so much more than that!

About Being An Air Force Wife

Being An Air Force Wife is a about simply, being a military wife in todays world. Military wives take the 'unwritten' oath, to keep the home fires burning. When our troops are in the battle field, it's not always easy, it can be hair pulling at times, but this proud AF wife tries to find the humor in every situation.
